Dr. William Guyton (1914-2011) was a resident of Broadmead in Cluster H from 1985 until his death in May of 2011. Frederick B. Rasmussen’s obituary pays tribute to his career and his interests at Broadmead which included an abiding concern for the flora and fauna of the Broadmead property.
The Guyton Collection contains slides and digital images related to a talk on the history of Broadmead's pond given to the Bird and Nature Study Group on October 29, 2003 by Dr. Guyton. Included in the collection are photographs relating to the tornado of June 9, 1991, the floods of November/December 1993, and 1996, the snow of January 1996, as well as ducks and ducklings, crayfish, trout, waterlilies, and black snakes. Included also is a presentation of Mary Craig’s Aerial photographs taken in 1981 and 1982.
Following Dr. Guyton’s slide presentation that accompanied his talk are images of a photographic album in the collection which he entitled “Broadmead Scenes” that apparently was once part of a series of at least 3 albums. It is uncertain how the BRA Archives acquired this album, but his intent was for it to be a part of the permanent collections as is reflected in a letter found with the album.
